Discoveries can be supported by primary sources that demonstrate multiple perspectives.

Directions

  1. Find a partner, preferably someone with whom you are not very familiar.
  2. Choose an item from your pocket, purse, or bag that tells something about you.
  3. Describe objectively the item to your partner.
  4. Let your partner ask a few questions about the item and answer those questions.
  5. Ask your partner to guess what this item tells about your life
  6. Let your partner know if the hypothesis is correct.
  7. Repeat the process, switching roles with your partner.

Following the activity

Once the activity has finished, discuss the following with the group

  • What professionals work in this manner?
  • How could you support your hypothesis about someone's life?
  • How does this activity connect with the resources at the Library of Congress?
