About
Your Learners
This LibraryQuest was designed for 7th grade social studies and addresses several language arts objectives as well. The lesson could easily be adapted for different grade levels, and should be accessible to a wide range of students, including gifted, special education, and new language learners.
Differentiation Ideas:
-
Allow some students to work in pairs on the introductory scavenger hunt.
-
Some of the historical figures are easier to research than others. Those that have research links to America's Library from the Library of Congress and PBSKids Go: Learning Adventures in Citizenship might be best for struggling readers.
-
Allow two students to research the same historical figure. You would need to make sure that they were in different dinner party groups, however.
-
There are two sets of essay directions. One asks students to write a 3-paragraph essay; the other asks students to write a 5-paragraph essay.
-
Modifying the number of questions students choose would be another possible modification.
Prior to beginning this lesson, students will need to be familiar with the basic events of the 1920s. They should also have experience doing research, taking notes, and analyzing primary source documents. In addition, they should be comfortable with using the Internet, especially the BACK button.
